Thank You

Thank you neighbors! Election day has come and gone, and the voters of our great city have spoken. I thank you for your confidence and am deeply humbled by the trust that you have placed in me. I commit to serve, for the next five years, all the residents of the City of Sunnyvale as your Councilmember. As I said many times during the campaign, the role of City Council is to provide vision, judgment and oversight. Whether you voted for me, or for one of my opponents, I am here to serve and I will do my best to justify your faith in me.

As your Councilmember, I will be responsive to the community. You can reach out and contact me to share your ideas and concerns. Call me at (408) 242-8384. Or, email me at

I wanted to take a moment to thank Steve Hoffman and Gustavo Magaña. While the three of us don’t always agree on the issues facing Sunnyvale, what we all have in common is that we deeply care about the future or our wonderful city. I thank Steve and Gustavo for their involvement in the community and for running such spirited campaigns.

I also wanted to thank all of my many supporters who helped me during the campaign. There were so many of you who helped behind the scenes on the campaign, and who helped me with your contributions of time, effort and money. Most of all, I wanted to thank my wife Cindy and our wonderful children. To all of my supporters and to my family: I couldn’t have done it without you.

Thank you, once again!

Dear Friends

For the last eight years I have been deeply engaged in Sunnyvale. I was born and raised here, and my wife and I are raising our family here. I think Sunnyvale is a great place to live, work and do business.

There are many positive things about Sunnyvale and the future for Sunnyvale is bright. We have a strong budget. The City is expanding all of its services. Businesses are moving to our City and people continue to want to live here.

But, even with all the good things that are going on in Sunnyvale, we must do better. To do this we need to focus on several areas.

Political Gridlock – We need to change the tone of government in Sunnyvale. We need to stop the constant personal attacks and unfounded charges of corruption.

Fiscal discipline – The city's latest budget is very good and promising, but it includes assumptions for future years. The Council must understand those assumptions and maintain its discipline.

Public Safety – Give our personnel the tools and resources to “Protect and Serve”. This means increasing the manpower, yet also managing the historical growth curve of expenses.

Protect our Environment – Sunnyvale has been a leader in Environmental issues. We need to expand these efforts.

Managing Change – Sunnyvale is a dynamic place. We need to make sure that our services can keep pace with growth.

But we cannot do these things alone - we must work together as a community to achieve these goals. I will work hard with the rest of the Council to make this happen. I will do so collaboratively, and without rancor or personal attacks, and when we disagree, we will do so with respect. I will listen and respect other opinions, from my colleagues, from staff, and from residents. And when I cast a vote, you will know my reasons.

I grew up in Sunnyvale. It is my home, and I love it. I want to keep Sunnyvale great, for my family and for yours, and I will work to make that happen.
